Car Insurance For Under 25's
Many young drivers feel discriminated against because their car insurance costs are higher just because of their age. The truth of the matter is that statistics have shown that drivers under 25 are more likely to be involved in an accident than older drivers. It does not seem fair at all, but car insurance companies cannot always cater for the individual when it comes to certain cases. While you may be a better and safer driver than older drivers, you are part of a group, a group that consists largely of high-risk drivers. You do not have to accept it as is though; there are a few ways in which you can get the most out of your car insurance.
Before settling on a car insurance company, make sure that you have done your research. There are some companies that treat younger drivers differently, and the benefits and drawbacks vary from company to company. While most companies view the age of 25 as being the time when rates can drop, some lower the age to 23. If you are married, rates will also drop, as they view you as more responsible than your peers.
To allow your car insurance company the chance to perceive you as a more responsible driver, inquire about courses in driver safety, accident avoidance or defensive driving. Upon completion of these courses, your rates could drop by up to 5%. Car insurance companies also give discounts to students who perform well. If you are currently attending high school or college, and have an average of 3.0 or more, your insurance premiums can drop anywhere from 5%- 10%. If you are just getting your license, you can take an education program for qualified drivers, and your rates could drop by up to 15%.
While you cannot control your age, you can choose the car that you drive. New cars are fitted with modern parts that often incur a high repair or replacement cost. It would be better to opt for a slightly used car. This way you get the feel of having a new car, without the sky-high car insurance premiums. If your car is fitted with safety features like air bags and anti-lock brakes, your risk rating will decrease, and so will your insurance rates. It is not only your car that needs to be safe; you need to be a safe driver. Keeping a spotless driving record will further decrease your car insurance rates.
Just because you happen to be young and fall into the high-risk group, it does not mean that you do not deserve insurance that is affordable and suited to your needs.
